The Online Vanity Press
Somewhere deep in the bowels of internet hell, there exists a group of people who regularly self-post the transcripts of their online chats. I remain unsure as to whether they are preserving these transcripts for the historical record, or merely for posterity. Perhaps they have chosen to record the best of what’s been thought and said in the hopes of one day jogging their memories when it comes time to pen their memoirs. Or maybe they are desperately trying to prove to the world just how funny or insightful they can be in a spontaneous conversation.
Whatever the case may be, it is just plain weird and it has to stop. I have yet to see anything in an IRC chat that is worth repeating and, as far as I can tell, the typical conversation goes something like this:
First_Jerk: omfg I’m sooo bored
Jerk2: ah FJ, you know I love yo
First_Jerk: luv what?
NewJerk: PENIS
Everyone: lol
